Carlsbad Police Collecting Unworn Cold Weather Clothes for Drug Endangered Children

Children exposed to dangerous situations involving drugs are often found wearing little clothing. Officers want to help keep them warm as they transition to protective custody.

Editor's Note: The following is an email from Darbie Ernst with the Carlsbad Police Department

This year I am collecting NEW jackets, coats, sweatshirts or any other type of cold weather outerwear for Drug Endangered Children (DEC).  For those of you that are not familiar with DEC, they respond when law enforcement officers come in contact with children that have been exposed/neglected due to dangerous situations involving drugs.  We recently met four year old 'Jacob' when conducting a probation search of his mother in their shared motel room.  Mom had been smoking Heroin all night.  'Jacob' was rescued by DEC and was taken into protective custody with the little clothing he had on him.  He later tested positive for Heroin. Please help in keeping these kids warm during their tough transitions.

DEC is in need of mostly sizes infant-6 year, but can use any size clothing.  Bins will be in the atrium of the Carlsbad Police Department for collection and will be picked up and delivered to DEC on December 10th.
