Carlsbad Police Officer Arrested on Burglary Charge

Chief of Police Gary Morrison made the announcement of Officer Michael Koch's arrest Jan 22 with "tremendous disappointment."

According to the , on Jan. 19 Carlsbad Police Officer Michael C. Koch, 44, was suspected of taking narcotics from the police department’s property impound.  Numerous police employees were listed as witnesses.  Koch was subsequently arrested with a bail of $25,000. Koch posted bail on Jan 20 and was released. The victim of the crime is the State of California.

On Jan. 22 Chief of Police Gary Morrison announced the arrest of Officer Michael C. Koch for the charge of Burglary.

“Upon learning of potential misconduct, an immediate investigation was launched resulting in the arrest of Police Officer Koch,” wrote Morrison in an official release.

Officer Koch was placed on administrative leave.

The case has been handed over to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. Morrison added, “As with personnel investigations, there is a limited amount of information that can be released at this time. Our goal as a department is to be open and transparent within the parameters of the law.”
