Carlsbad Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Stealing Heroin

Veteran officer Michael C. Koch, 44, will be sentenced June 20.

Micheal Koch, a police detective with pleaded guilty Thursday to a felony charge of second-degree burglary for stealing heroin from the department's property impound room.

Koch, 44, will be sentenced – probably to probation – on June 20 at the Vista Courthouse.

A statement released by the Carlsbad Police Department after Koch's said "numerous" police employees witnessed the thefts. Police Chief Gary Morrison expressed "tremendous disappointment" and placed Koch on paid administrative leave.

The defendant had been with the Carlsbad Police Department for 18 years.
