Carlsbad Police Participate in 'Shoulder Tap Operation'

The department joined a nationwide effort to stop the purchase of alcohol for those under the age of 21.

More than 90 law enforcement agencies, including the Carlsbad Police Department, participated in "Decoy Shoulder Tap Operation" Friday.

The operation, which involved the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, "can lead to the arrest of adults who purchase alcohol for people less than 21 years of age" and is "intended to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors."

According to CPD, 44 adults in Carlsbad were contacted Friday night though none agreed to purchase alcohol for the decoys.

This operation was grant funded by the California Alcoholic Beverage Control, sponsored by the Governor’s Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
