Carlsbad Police Promotes 2 and Recognizes 7

After a lengthy process, on Oct. 9 the City of Carlsbad's Police Chief Gary Morrison officially promoted of two officers, one to the rank of Lieutenant and one to the rank of Sergeant.

The process for choosing a lieutenant began with six candidates. Members of the group were required to read leadership books, write a statement of qualification, answer questions for a mock community panel, react to an emergency tactical event and finally, sit before an executive management interview.

Sergeant Peter Pascual was selected from this group and promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Pascual is married with two children. Before spending 20 years with the City of Carlsbad Police Department, Pascual spent two years with the San Diego County Marshal’s Office. Pascual has a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and is a Sherman Block Strategic Leadership Institute graduate.

The selection process for sergeant was similar. Twelve candidates participated in a written test, a formal interview panel, a tactical event and an executive management interview.

Officer Jade Chase was selected from this group and promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

Chase is married with two children. Chase worked with San Diego Police Department for four years and was an assigned to a Crime Suppression Team in the Mid‐City area. Chase came to the Carlsbad Police Department in 2005. Chase has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor is Sociology. Chase is currently working toward her Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership.

“We are thankful to have such an excellent group of well qualified officers,” said City of Carlsbad Police Chief Gary Morrison. “We are looking forward to having Pascual and Chase assume their promotional positions.”

The promotions took place during a badge pinning ceremony at police headquarters.

The promotional positions were current vacancies in the department.

In addition to the promotion ceremony, special awards were given to a group of distinguished and heroic officers.

Medal of Merit – Captain William Rowland

Distinguished Service Medal – Sergeant Mickey Williams

Distinguished Service Medal – Corporal Rick Galanos

Distinguished Service Medal – Corporal Jeff Smith

Lifesaving Medal – Officer Stacey Liberatore

Lifesaving Medal – Officer Jason Krawczyk

Chief’s Citizen Commendation – Lifeguard Kevin P. Craig, California State Parks

“Every day these officers go above and beyond the call of duty, showing great integrity and courage,” said Morrison. “I am honored to work with the men and women of the City of Carlsbad Police Department.”
