Carlsbad Police Pursue Suspect in San Marcos Robbery

A 22-year-old man was arrested following a chase that began in Carlsbad.

A suspect in the robbery of a gas station in San Marcos early Saturday morning was arrested following a pursuit that began in Carlsbad, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

A Shell station on S. Rancho Santa Fe Road was robbed around 4 a.m. by a man who simulated that he had a weapon, said Sgt. Matthew Blumenthal. The suspect fled in a silver Chevrolet Malibu and was spotted by Carlsbad police 20 minutes later.

The Malibu failed to stop when Carlsbad police attempted to stop the car, and a pursuit began that ended in the San Elijo Hills area of San Marcos.

Gabriel Guzman, 22, was arrested after he was positively identified as the suspect in the Shell robbery, Blumenthal said.

Nobody was hurt in the robbery, which began when an employee sweeping the parking lot after the gas station closed entered the station through the employee entrance and was confronted by the suspect, according to Blumenthal.
