The California Highway Patrol has made fewer DUI arrests this year than last year statewide and in San Diego County since the start of the Labor Day weekend, officials reported.

From Friday 6 p.m. until 6 a.m. today the CHP made 34 arrests in San Diego County and one fatality was reported. The person who was killed was not wearing a seat belt, according to the CHP. Last year, during the same period, 46 people were arrested and two fatalities were reported.

Statewide, DUI arrests declined for this time period from 892 in 2012 to 832 in 2013. Across the state 14 deaths have been reported, compared to 11 statewide last year during the same time frame.
