Expect Even Hotter Weather in San Diego County on Thursday, Less Winds

The record-breaking heat that contributed to today's extreme wildfire conditions around San Diego County will be even worse tomorrow, though the winds are not expected to be as strong, a National Weather Service meteorologist said.

High temperatures were well into the 90s along the shoreline and hit triple-digits in the valleys this afternoon, according to NWS data.

"Tomorrow will be hotter than today," meteorologist Mark Moede told City News Service. "We'll have temperatures 100 to 105 in some of the valleys and even in the coastal zones."

He said the official San Diego high temperature at Lindbergh Field would range from 94 to 97 degrees, depending on how early a sea breeze kicks in. Today, the airport temperature had registered 91 degrees by 1 p.m., well above the record high at Lindbergh Field for May 14 -- 87 degrees set in 1956, NWS data showed.

"We've had a couple days in a row of Santa Ana winds here," Moede said. "Tomorrow, the winds won't be quite as strong."

He said the winds would still be around, though, with a Red Flag warning extended through 5 p.m. Thursday.
