Firefighters Extinguish Brush Fire in Oceanside

About 20 firefighters from Oceanside and Camp Pendleton were dispatched about 11:45 a.m. Sunday to the vicinity of Mission Avenue and Airport Road.

Firefighters extinguished a fire that blackened about an acre of brush Sunday just south of the Oceanside Municipal Airport.

About 20 firefighters from Oceanside and Camp Pendleton were dispatched about 11:45 a.m. to the vicinity of Mission Avenue and Airport Road, North County fire officials said.

The fire burned behind some nearby homes on Carolyn Circle, but no structures were threatened and no evacuations were ordered, according to fire officials.

The fire was initially reported as about a quarter-acre spreading at a moderate rate. It grew to about an acre before crews could establish a fire line, fire officials said.

As of 12:45 p.m., the fire was out and crews had finished mopping up hot spots, according to fire officials.
