Suspected 'Front Porch Thieves' Arrested in Carlsbad

Carlsbad police arrested two men Tuesday believed to be responsible for a series of thefts from front porches, homes and cars.

According to the department, police received a call around noon Tuesday from a person on Calle San Blas about suspicious activity around their neighbor's vacant home. The neighbor reported that two men rang the doorbell then proceeded through the side gate and entered the house from the rear.  

Officers arrived on scene and arrested 28-year-old James Michael Dorman and 34-year-old Victor Hugo Alaniz on suspicion of residential burglary.

Alaniz is being held on $65,000 bail, with arraignment set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Vista Superior Court, according to jail records. Dorman is being held on $50,000 bail with arraignment set at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Thursday, also in Vista.

An earlier report documented the same two suspects removing property from a truck bed parked at the Extended Stay Inn on Grand Avenue in Carlsbad.

Carlsbad police say they think these two suspects are responsible for a series of thefts from , residential burglaries and vehicle burglaries in Carlsbad.  

Carlsbad police detectives on Jan. 11 also arrested nine suspects thought to be involved in the same series at the same address where Dorman lives. Alaniz is on parole.

There might be as many as 19 cases in this series, police say. The cases span the first three months of 2012, said the Carlsbad Police Department.

An additional suspect, Saul Tellez, 41, was arrested by Oceanside police on Monday. Tellez was arrested on charges of crimes similar to those occurring in Carlsbad.  All three men are still in custody at the Vista Detention Facility
