Carlsbad Man Fires Gun at Home Intruder

Carlsbad Police and a Sheriff's helicopter searching for a burglary suspect in the northeast area of Carlsbad, but unable to locate him.

A Carlsbad man grabbed a gun and fired a shot at a burglar he found in his home this afternoon, prompting the intruder to flee, police reported.

The home invasion and shooting in the 4000 block of Tuolumne Place was reported shortly after 12:30 p.m.

It was unclear if the intruder was wounded by the gunfire, police spokeswoman Jodee Sasway said. Officers searched for the burglar into the mid-afternoon with help from a sheriff's helicopter crew but were unable to find the suspect.

A Carlsbad Police spokesperson said there is no current danger to the neighborhood and the investigation is ongoing.  

According to a police press release, "the intruder is described as an unknown race male, wearing a mask, black shirt and brown cargo pants."
