Man Dies in Single-Car Crash in Carlsbad

The crash happened between Cannon Road and Tamarack Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A 39-year-old Oceanside man died early Wednesday morning when he veered off the freeway and crashed his car into a tree in Carlsbad. 

The crash happened on southbound Interstate 5 between Cannon Road and Tamarack Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. 

According to 10News, when California Highway Patrol officers arrived on the scene, the man had already died. His identity is unknown at this time, pending family notification. 

"He was the restrained driver and sole occupant of an Audi A4 sedan that ... for unknown reasons ... veered into the western embankment and struck a tree," the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Police said they are still looking into the cause of the crash, but that drugs or alcohol are not a suspected cause.
