Pedestrian Taken to Hospital After Being Hit by Train

The 23-year-old man tried to cross the tracks with lights flashing and crossing arms lowered, authorities said.

A 23-year-old man was taken to a hospital early Sunday morning with scrapes and bruises after he was hit by a train near Carlsbad Village Drive, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Rail Enforcement Unit determined that the man was intoxicated and attempted to cross the tracks despite the flashing lights and lowered crossing arms around 12:05 a.m., according to Deputy D. Patterson.

The man was struck by the train and thrown about 20 feet away, according to Patterson. He was taken to Scripps La Jolla for observation. His condition was not released.
