Carlsbad Police Arrest 3 Suspects in Fatal Stabbing

The three are arrested in the early morning hours on Saturday at the Motel 6 on Plaza Drive.

Police arrested three suspects Saturday morning in connection with the of a 63-year-old Carlsbad man on Friday, according to the Carlsbad Police Department.

The three were arrested at the Motel 6 on Plaza Drive by SWAT officers around 4 a.m. Grant Hunter, 23, and Mercedes Yorba, 19, were booked on suspicion of homicide, residential robbery and burglary. Gary Gomez, 27, was arrested on accessory and drug charges, police said. They were booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

They are suspects in the death of Michael Sahagun, who was found mortally wounded by police in a garage on his property in the 3500 block of Valley Street.

Police did not release what led them to the suspects, and officers were searching Saturday for three additional people who were seen leaving the scene of the stabbing in a silver pickup truck, said Carlsbad Police Lt. Bruce May. The truck may have had landscaping materials and tools inside it.
