Police Run in Memory of Killed Colleagues

Hundreds of San Diego County law enforcement officers completed a 2.5 mile run in Carlsbad on Saturday in solidarity for officers killed in the line of duty.

Some 200 San Diego County law enforcement officers took part Saturday in a memorial run to honor colleagues killed in the line of duty. They ran along a 2.5-mile stretch of Carlsbad Boulevard as a group to symbolize unity, said Fiona Everett, senior management analyst for the .

Last year three officers from San Diego County were killed in the line of duty, Everett said, and two California cops were killed this year.

San Diego police Officer Christopher Wilson was shot and killed Oct. 28, 2010, while assisting probation officers on a compliance check. Sheriff's Deputy Ken Collier was killed in a crash Feb. 28, 2010, while in pursuit on State Route 52. And San Diego County-based California Highway Patrol Officer Daniel Benavides was killed May 7, 2010, in plane crash while on patrol. 

Killed this year were a CHP officer from Mendocino County and a Cathedral City police officer.
