Prosecutor Kills Self in Front of Carlsbad Police Officer

Deputy District Attorney Christine Trevino, 51, died Thursday night in Oceanside while sitting in her car at a traffic signal.

Lawyers in the San Diego County District Attorney's Office are mourning the suicide of a prosecutor who shot herself in the head during a traffic stop.

Christine Trevino, 51, died about 6:35 p.m. Thursday after she was pulled over by at the Oceanside Shopping Center in the 2100 block of Vista Way.

It was unclear what she was upset over, but Oceanside police Lt. Leonard Mata said someone asked police to check on Trevino.

It was also unclear what Trevino might have said to the Carlsbad police officer who witnessed the suicide.

She had been a deputy district attorney for 21 years and was assigned to
the North County Branch in Vista. She had been assigned to
several divisions during her career including narcotics, child support and
gangs.
