Smoke from a vegetation fire burning Thursday afternoon on Camp Pendleton may be visible from surrounding communities.

The base's fire officials are monitoring the blaze that is burning "well into the Whiskey impact area," which is in the northern area of Camp Pendleton near the San Onofre River bed, the agency stated in a Facebook post just after 4 p.m. Thursday.

The fire started at approximately 2:30 p.m.

"No action has been taken by firefighters and the fire poses no threat at this time," Camp Pendleton Fire Department stated in the post.

Between Aug. 19 and 28, the 11th Marine Regiment was scheduled for live artillery training in the Whiskey and Zulu impact areas; however it was not immediately known if that was related to Thursday's blaze.
