Student's Bomb 'Joke' Prompts School Lockdown

Valley Middle School briefly went on lockdown around 11 a.m. Thursday after a male student commented about a bomb being planted in the library.

Administrators evacuated the library and kept students inside their classrooms for about a half-hour while officers checked through the building and confirmed that there were no explosives or any other dangerous items inside, the lieutenant said.

The teen who made the comment told police he'd meant it as a joke. Officers did not arrest the boy but instead left any discipline over the incident to school administrators, May said.
