Suspected Gas Thief Nabbed in North County

Police said it was unknown if today's gas theft was related to similar cases in the North County.

A 30-year-old San Marcos man was arrested in Carlsbad early today for allegedly siphoning gas from a vehicle, along with drug-related violations.

Carlsbad officers were dispatched to the 6300 block of El Camino Real near Camino Vida Roble about 3:20 a.m. to look into a report of a suspicious person possibly stealing gas, according to police.

Officers contacted Francisco Moedano in a silver Toyota Rav4 in the area, and he was subsequently arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Center on suspicion of possession of stolen gas, possession of narcotics and drug paraphernalia, petty theft and possession of burglary tools, according to police and jail records.

Police said it was unknown if today's gas theft was related to similar cases in the North County. Anyone with information on gas thefts was asked to call Carlsbad police Detective Brett MacFarlane at (760) 931-2149.
