3 Carlsbad Apartments Damaged in Fire

The fire broke out around 4:40 p.m. Sunday in a second story unit at the Lime Grove Apartment off Chinquapin Ave.

Ten fire engines and two trucks from Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista Fire Departments responded to a fire Sunday at the Lime Grove Apartments in Carlsbad.

One apartment unit was significantly damaged and two other units had some damage, said Carlsbad Battalion Chief Mike Lopez of the fire that broke out around 4:40 p.m.

Neighbor Aaron Fritz told Carlsbad Patch he called 9-11 after seeing five to six-foot flames shooting out of a second story unit.

Fritz said a neighbor grabbed a fire extinguisher, rushed to the apartment on fire, broke open the window, sprayed the extinguisher and yelled to see if anyone was trapped inside.

There were no injuries. Fire officials said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
