Waste Management Truck Driver Run Over By Own Vehicle Identified

Pablo Virgen's family is asking to speak to any witnesses. Waste Management statement expresses deep sadness.

Updated: The family of deceased Waste Management truck driver Pablo Virgen is asking anyone who witnessed the accident just before 10 a.m. Monday in the 800 block of Bluewater Road to come forward.

Carlsbad police and fire officials arrived on the scene to find Virgen lying in the road with a severe injury to his torso. According to Lt. Marc Reno with the , "It appears the driver was the sole occupant of a Waste Management trash truck who had fallen out of his vehicle for an unknown reason. After falling out of his vehicle, the driver was run over by his own vehicle."

Carlsbad Fire Department paramedics pronounced Virgen deceased at the scene.

The incident is under investigation by the traffic division. The victim's family is meeting with the medical examiner and hoping to have new information soon.

Elizabeth Neubrand, area communications manager for Waste Management, released this statement to Carlsbad Patch: "We are deeply saddened by the death of Pablo Virgen as he was a valued member of our team. We are currently working with the authorities to support their ongoing investigation. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and coworkers."
