Other Facts

I am a passionate advocate for taxpayers. When MiraCosta College gave its former president an outrageous $1.6 million “golden parachute,” I filed a public interest lawsuit challenging the buy-out as an unconstitutional gift of public funds. After a three-year battle, I won a court judgment nullifying this expenditure, saving MiraCosta College over $250,000. My case established a legal precedent prohibiting other local public agencies from awarding similar gifts of taxpayer money. I know how public agencies and governing boards should operate. For almost ten years, I have served as Deputy County Counsel, representing county departments like the Registrar of Voters and Sheriff-Coroner. On my watch, MiraCosta will follow the law. I know how MiraCosta works. Last year, I joined MiraCosta’s Business Department as an associate faculty member, teaching Business Law at the college’s Oceanside campus. I will be your watchdog. I will conduct oversight to ensure that your property taxes are spent effectively to educate students and never to enrich administrators. College business will be conducted in an open, efficient, and transparent manner. College officials will be held accountable and students will get the quality instruction they deserve. I respectfully ask for your vote this November 6th 2012.
