Carlsbad 5000 Road Closures

The CIty of Carlsbad wants residents to know which roads will be blocked off this weekend for the "world's fastest 5k" race.

The 26th annual Carlsbad 5000, known as the world’s fastest 5K, returns to Carlsbad this weekend with a 3.1 mile seaside course and nine races.  Race events are scheduled April 2 and 3, with some roads closed in and around the downtown Village area. 

In addition to the races, a free Health and Fitness Expo will take place on race weekend, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, and 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 3. Located on Roosevelt Street, between Grand Avenue and Carlsbad Village Drive, the expo also serves as the Carlsbad 5000 race registration headquarters.

The Carlsbad Jr. 5000 race draws an expected 6,500 spectators and more than 3,500 participants, and the Carlsbad 5000 will draw approximately 11,500 spectators and 8,500 participants from all over the U.S. and many foreign countries.

The City of Carlsbad Police Department and volunteers will assist cars needing to get in or out of closed or partially closed areas, when safety allows. Those who need to get in or out of the race area during the event can do so on a nearby street not affected by race-day closures.
