Carlsbad Collecting E-Waste like TVs, Cell Phones and Computers

E-waste can be dropped off for free in Carlsbad or an appointment can be made to have your items picked up curbside.

Did you get that new computer, TV or cell phone that was on your holiday wish list? Not sure what to do with the old one? E-waste, including computers, printers, cell phones and TVs, must be kept separate from regular trash. The City of Carlsbad offers a number of options for disposing of e-waste that are convenient and help protect the environment.

E-waste can be dropped off for free at the following city-approved drop-off locations:

  • Waste Management Buyback Center, 5960 El Camino Real, Carlsbad, Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.; closed noon – 12:40 p.m., no appointment needed, 760-929-9400

  • Waste Management Recycling Facility, 2880 Industry St., Oceanside, Hours: Alternating Saturdays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., by appointment only, 760-929-9400

  • PSC Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, 1145 East Taylor St., Vista, Hours: Saturdays 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., no appointment needed, 800-714-1195

You can also make an appointment for free curbside pick-up of your e-waste as part of the city’s bulky item collection program. Simply call 760-929-9400 to schedule curbside pick-up.

Unwanted cell phones and used household batteries can be placed in a clear plastic storage bag on top of your recycle cart on your normally scheduled collection day.

For more information about these services, visit carlsbadca.gov/trash and click on the “Electronic waste (e-waste)” link, or call Waste Management at 760-929-9400. “We want to make it easy for residents to protect the health and beauty of our environment by properly disposing of unwanted computers, TVs and cell phones and other e-waste,” said Craig Schmollinger, management analyst for the City of Carlsbad’s Utilities Department.
