Carlsbad Unified School District (CUSD) in collaboration with the City of Carlsbad Recreation Department will be hosting “Copa de Carlsbad” Soccer Tournament on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Pine Field.
This is an opportunity for the community to support the health and wellness of students and cheer for the players in the District in an active, positive environment.
This event displays a great partnership between CUSD and City of Carlsbad for the benefit of students. The tournament will be similar format to the March Madness Basketball Tournament, also hosted by CUSD and City of Carlsbad.
The teams are comprised of 4th and 5th grade boys and girls team from six elementary schools in Carlsbad Unified School District; Calavera Hills, Jefferson, Pacific Rim, Poinsettia, Hope and Aviara Oaks.
The men’s and women’s local professional soccer teams, San Diego Sockers and San Diego Sealions, will be in attendance to promote exercise, the sport of soccer, and to meet and interact with the students. Players from the Carlsbad High School’s soccer team are also getting involved – they are excited to help coach, support and mentor the elementary students playing.
Come support the students representing their school! Tournament starts at 2 p.m. with medals being distributed to all players and trophies to top boys’ and girls’ team approximately at 4:20pm.
Carlsbad Lightning Soccer Club will be donating soccer balls to each participating elementary school.
