Carlsbad Woman Avoids Paying Spousal Support With New State Law

A Carlsbad woman won't have to support her husband because of a law that will go into effect 2013.

Carlsbad resident Crystal Harris avoided paying spousal support because of a state law that will go into effect in 2013, according to the North County Times.

Harris—who was attacked by her husband and asked to pay $25,000 in legal fees for the attorney representing her husband—avoided the demand because of a California law that "prevents a judge from ordering a spousal abuse victim to pay support to his or her attacker after divorce," according to the newspaper.
