City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts Office Awards 2014 Grants for Arts Events & Activities

Eighteen non-profit organizations and schools will share $25,000 for activities taking place in 2014.

The City of Carlsbad is proud to announce the recipients of the 2014 Community Arts Grants. The Community Arts Grants program, now in its 29th year, provides cultural opportunities for Carlsbad residents and strengthens local arts organizations through matching grants for projects taking place in Carlsbad. Eighteen non-profit organizations and schools will share $25,000 for activities taking place in 2014. The Carlsbad Arts Commission approved recommendations made by a peer review panel of local arts professionals and community representatives on December 5th. Organizations and Partnerships category:  Five grants were made, ranging from $1,500 to $4,000.


Carlsbad Music Festival:                $4,000

Support for Carlsbad Village Music Walk, an evening of 35+ short concerts by adventurous performers.

Carlsbad-Oceanside Art League: $2000

Support for ten professional artist workshops in Carlsbad which are open to members and to the public.

Mainly Mozart: $1,500
Support for the three-concert chamber music Spotlight Series at St. Elizabeth Seaton Church.

New Village Arts: $3,000
Support for 2013 production season with seven main stage productions, an ongoing music series, two New Play workshops , an educational program and the Art Foundry for visual artists.

Patrons of the Arts Foundation/Carlsbad Community Theatre:  $2,000
Support for multiple performances of two youth productions, one family production and five workshops.

Arts Education category:  Thirteen grants of $875 to $1,200 were awarded for activities within the schools that contain a performance, exhibition or presentation open to public attendance.

Carlsbad Educational Foundation: $1,200
Support for art instruction services at district-wide Kids' Care after-school program.

Carlsbad High School Drama Club: $1,200
Support for guest choreographer-in-residence for the musical theatre production in spring 2014.
Carlsbad High School Speech and Debate Team: $875
Support for specialized textbooks and materials for the Interpretation students.

El Camino Creek Elementary School: $1,000
Support for purchase of tone chimes for use by 800 K-6 students.

Jefferson Elementary School: $1,200
Support for the Jefferson Elementary Choir program, which provides free choral instruction to 3rd through 5th grade students.

La Costa Canyon High School Theatre Program: $1,200

Support for guest vocal coach/pianist for Chicago, musical theatre production in spring 2014.

Pacific Rim Elementary: $856
Support for art instruction for all students, and full school gallery exhibition.

Poinsettia Elementary School: $1,200
Support for six-week art instruction program for all students, and full school traveling exhibition.

Sage Creek High School - Music:  $500
Support for purchase of music equipment to facilitate instruction.

Sage Creek High School - Theatre: $500
Support for professional technical services for spring 2014 production.

Sage Creek High School - Visual Arts: $900
Support for visual arts field trip and gallery exhibition, including exhibition equipment.

St. Patrick School: $1,200
Support for artist-led "Write On!" playwriting residency with 100 5th & 6th grade students in spring semester 2014.

Valley Middle School: $1,200
Support for choreography instruction for 105 members of 3 school show choirs in spring and fall semesters of 2014.
