City Offers Fire Season Safety Tips

Summer’s warm temperatures and dry weather make fire prevention especially important this time of year.

The City of Carlsbad encourages residents to take these simple steps to stay safe this season.

  • Ensure vehicles and equipment have been maintained and are in proper repair
  • Avoid using spark- and heat-generating equipment in or near dry brush areas
  • Establish boundaries between home or work and dry brush areas
  • Perform spark- or heat-generating work during cooler parts of the day, avoiding this work during periods of high wind
  • Inspect grassy areas before mowing and remove any spark-producing debris
  • Ensure portable firefighting equipment is functioning properly
  • Avoid parking vehicles roadside or in dry brush areas
  • Dispose of flammables, like charcoal, properly
  • Clear any debris off of roof
  • Discuss hazards and prevention tips with family members and coworkers to broaden awareness
  • Plan escape routes
  • Report hazardous activities, smoke or fire to 911
