Carlsbad City Councilwoman Farrah Golshan Douglas resigned today, citing pressing personal and family commitments.

Douglas, an unsuccessful Assembly candidate last year, will step down at 5 p.m. Friday. Her term was set to expire after November's general election.

"Knowing how difficult it can be to balance personal and family commitments with the immense sense of duty we all bring to our roles on the City Council, I respect her decision to step down and thank her for the significant contributions she has made to our city," Mayor Matt Hall said.

The City Council will decide how to fill her position at an upcoming meeting. City rules allow for a special election or the appointment of a replacement.

"Farrah made a significant contribution during her time as a council member, including helping the city be more business-friendly, working to make the desalination project a reality and initiating efforts to bring an institution of higher education to Carlsbad," Hall said.

Besides serving on the City Council, Douglas runs the Tri-City Hospital Foundation. She co-owned a printing business for 23 years.

With my own ears during 2008, I heard her brag to the Union Tribune that, via her Power as 'Planning Commissioner,' she refused to allow Hoehn Porsche to expand into the still-vacant dirt lot that abuts both the freeway and their current facility. Horrendous! Would rather have the city become disincorporated than to give jerks this kind of unrestrained power.

A replacement? wouldn't mind amending some laws so that Bill Hoehn could join the council, as we need somebody with absolute and total respect for the business community. Also, the fine lady who resigned from the council half-way through her term a few years ago would be good for the people. She resigned because of being forced to be an eyewitness to the awful, anti-taxpayer manner in which the unneeded golf course was developed. Her name is Noreen Sigafoose, and she has respect for the people and the money that government takes from us.

Hoehn doesn't live in Carlsbad. He only gets rich there.

I like it when people get rich everywhere. I also like it when people obtain jobs, but Foreign Douglas prefers to see a dirt lot compared to a thriving business.

No, the two wonderful people mentioned above are too ethical for this Council to tolerate. Watch them re-cycle the 'Leona Helmsly of the West Coast' back on to the city council.
