Final Meeting for La Costa Ave. Improvements

The City of Carlsbad will hold the last in a series of three community meetings to develop a plan to reduce speeds and improve safety on La Costa Avenue between El Camino Real and Rancho Santa Fe Road. The community workshop will be held at the , 3420 Camino De Los Coches, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 23.

According to city Traffic Engineer Doug Bilse, one of the plan’s main goals is to enhance the residential character of the La Costa neighborhood while maintaining the roadway’s function as a main east-west corridor. The third workshop on June 23 will consider a draft plan for La Costa Avenue, built on the community input and preferences provided at the previous meetings.  The draft plan is based on principles expressed by the community at the first two workshops:

  • Increase safety for all users
  • Design a roadway in keeping with the residential neighborhood
  • Don’t divert traffic to other residential streets
  • Develop a cost effective plan

The on April 28, provided information to the public on the planning process and solicited input on community goals, traffic issues and concerns on La Costa Avenue, and preferred improvement options. The second workshop on May 26, reviewed the input received from the community at the first meeting and presented different concepts to address the traffic issues and achieve the community’s objectives for improvements on La Costa Avenue.
