Power Plant Hearing

The public is encouraged to come to this public hearing on NRG’s proposal to build a second power plant on the Carlsbad coastline and whether or not to require the old plant be torn down. 

The hearing will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the public comment period will begin at 5:30 p.m.

  1. The effect of new agreements by San Diego Gas & Electric Power to purchase electricity from three other power plants, and not the proposed Carlsbad plant, called the Carlsbad Energy Center Project;

  3. Financial concerns raised by NRG regarding the demolition of the Encina Power Station;
  4. Issues of electrical grid reliability in northern San Diego County;
  5. The ability of the proposed plant to meet federal clean-air standards;
  6. The effect of recent decisions by the Carlsbad City Council that bar construction of new large power plants in the city’s Coastal Zone.
