Senator Mark Wyland Presents Resolution to Carlsbad Student and Athlete

During Thursday’s Senate session in the State Capitol, Senator Mark Wyland (R) was pleased to present Brandon Miller of La Costa Canyon High School an official Senate Resolution recognizing him for outstanding academic and athletic achievement.

“I can’t think of a more deserving student,” said Senator Wyland. “Brandon Miller is not only a distinguished student and gifted athlete, but he also serves as a strong leader and role model in our community. I’m pleased I could share with my colleagues his many accomplishments.”

Named 2013 California Interscholastic Federation - CIF / Farmers Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Brandon Miller was selected from a pool of 590 candidates representing 1,500 CIF member schools statewide.

“I feel very honored to receive this State Resolution from Senator Wyland,” said Brandon Miller. “Throughout high school, I have worked hard to create a balance between academics and athletics and it is awesome to be recognized for that.”

Miller’s commitment to academics has rewarded him with a 4.66 weighted grade‐point average and a perfect ACT score of 36. He has received numerous academic honors and awards including AP Scholar with Distinction, Global Leadership Connection Scholarship recipient for San Diego County, and recognition from the San Diego Union Tribune All‐Academic Teams for baseball and basketball. He is also a member of the National Honors Society, California Scholarship Federation, and National Society of High School Scholars. Throughout his high school career, Brandon Miller has been dedicated to baseball and basketball and has been named Defensive or Offensive Most Valuable Player.

Off the field and court, he served as a baseball and basketball camp instructor for the La Costa Canyon Mavs Sports Camp for four years. Active in his church group as a leader and organizer, Brandon Miller is also member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletics. “I want to thank my friends, family, and coaches who have always been there to help me with anything and everything I need,” Miller added. “There is no question that I couldn't do this without them.”
