Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare; What’s Your Verdict on the Decision?

Justices upheld the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act, President Barack Obama's signature legislation.

The wait for the Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act—what some call "Obamacare"—is over.

On Thursday, the last day of the 2011-2012 Supreme Court session, Chief Justice John Roberts said the individual mandate may be upheld as a tax under a narrow reading of the Constitution.

"The individual mandate cannot be upheld as an exercise of Congress's power under the Commerce Clause," Roberts wrote. "That Clause authorizes Congress to regulate interstate commerce, not to order individuals to engage in it. In this case, however, it is reasonable to construe what Congress has done as increasing taxes on those who have a certain amount of income, but choose to go without health insurance. Such legislation is within Congress's power to tax."

A circus-like atmosphere outside the court, with media and protesters milling about, awaited the decision to be handed down this morning.

Now what?

Presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney has promised, if elected president, to “repeal and replace” the effort to provide health care to all Americans via an individual mandate to buy private insurance. Did the court overreach? Or did justices render a just verdict? Vote in the Patch poll.

So, you compare me with a literary genius who won the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize twice, and, yourself with an ugly washed up B movie actress who was infamous for her sexual exploits and after nearly dying of a venereal disease said, "Don't think this has taught me a lesson!" I guess that's ONE of the things you've learned.

By the way, Things, It was Mailer's editor that caused the misspelling, not Mailer, so Bankhead didn't have a clue. That's just one more valid comparison with you. You don't have a clue.

Fundamentalists take apocryphal stories literally. Norman Mailer knew how to spell.

You are so insecure that you always have to have the last word and so lonely that you spend all your time on the Patch just waiting for a comment so you can stroke your ego with a pithy reply. I signed up for Patch to get local news for my area. You signed up for Patch to spout radical right wing propaganda. Why don't you just go to theblaze.com. You'll feel much more at home there. On the Patch you're just a big pain in the ass. No one really cares what you think. You need to get a life.

Robert, I agree with most of your political positions, but your personal attack on TIL is not appropriate - Apologize !
