Two Carlsbad Men Make "Top 500 Delinquent Taxpayers" List

The Carlsbad residents on the California Franchise Tax Board list each owe around $300,000.

The California Franchise Tax Board issued Thursday a list of the "Top 500 Delinquent Taxpayers."

The delinquent taxpayers, including the two in Carlsbad, face a number of new consequences including:

  • Publishing the names and titles of corporate officers of listed corporations.
  • Publishing professional license information
  • Authorizing FTB to enter into reciprocal agreements with other states to offset refunds and collect tax debt
  • Prohibiting state agencies from entering into contracts with the Top 500

The FTB began issuing the list of top offenders in 2007 and has collected nearly $177 million, according to a press release. However, the list excludes tax liabilities under appeal, in litigation, or in bankruptcy proceedings. The list will be updated again in April.
