“SDCCU is committed to doing good in our local communities and protecting our customers’ data,” said Teresa Halleck, SDCCU president and CEO. “The first rule in preventing identity theft is: if you don’t need it, shred it, and we are here to make that happen. We are proud to be able to help consumers protect themselves from identity theft, while demonstrating our commitment to go green. Moving to our online banking services, such as eStatements, is a great way to minimize the amount of confidential information you have at home and reduce waste. Shred your old personal documents the safe and easy way by bringing them to our Shred Day.”

Since 2007, when SDCCU began hosting its free Shred Day events, more than 421,795 pounds of confidential, sensitive documents have been shredded on the spot and recycled at no charge, saving approximately 3,944 trees.

Free shredding services also will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 at two other SDCCU locations: San Diego branch at 5555 Mildred St.; and SDCCU’s administrative offices at 6545 Sequence Dr. in Mira Mesa.
