Pedal the Cause Rider to Hold a Special Fundraising Cabaret Performance Tomorrow in Carlsbad

Rebecca George, Riding in Honor and Memory of Her Long-Time Friend

Off-Broadway singer and 2-day Pedal the Cause rider Rebecca George will be hosting a special fundraising cabaret performance Tuesday, October 15 at 7:30 pm located at the Carlsbad City Library Auditorium. The title of the performance is appropriately titled Life is a Cabaret! featuring Rebecca singing and accompanied by the talented Elan McMahan, musical director at The Old Globe and Moonlight Stage and a recipient of the Craig Noel Award for musical direction.

For Rebecca, it has taken Pedal the Cause to awaken two passions that have been hibernating for some time now. One is cycling and the other is singing. Wanting to get back into cycling, Rebecca sought some advice from Mark Palmer of B+L Bike Sports, who encouraged her to look in the direction of the 2-day cycling fundraiser event.

“When I saw the date was October 26, the date I lost my long-time best friend Debbie to cancer three years ago, it just seemed to make sense and without even logging off the Pedal website I signed up and emailed Mark to tell him I had joined his team, and that he’d better be ready to do some coaching!” said Rebecca.

As much as the ride for cancer research honors Debbie’s memory, Rebecca’s fundraising event is something Debbie would have wanted Rebecca to do more than anything. Debbie and Rebecca met when Rebecca was 19 and studying voice performance at the Manhattan School of Music. “A few of the songs on the program I have included because for me, they are her. When I sing them, I hear her singing them. So they will be sung for her,” says Rebecca.

Compelled to participate because of Pedal’s mission and with the date coinciding with the anniversary of her best friend passing away from cancer, Rebecca saw this as an amazing opportunity to both honor her best friend while also celebrating life with so many amazing people who share the same passion for the cause to find a cure for cancer.

Rebecca has competed in triathlons in the past, and rode in a big fundraiser ride through France during her 5-years of living in the United Kingdom before relocating to San Diego, but her cycling activities were put on hold when she was hit by a car a few years ago. Through Pedal the Cause, Rebecca is gaining her confidence back.  “I am really looking forward to the ride up to Julian in that ‘nervous anticipation’ kind of way. I know it will be hard work, and I am so excited to experience this both as a personal challenge and to meet people with the same passions for the cause,” said Rebecca.

Life is a Cabaret! is this Tuesday, October 15and will be held atthe Carlsbad Dove Library Auditorium, 1775 Dove Lane from 7:30 to 8:45 pm. General admission tickets are $20 and student or military tickets are $10 which can be bought by making a donation on Rebecca’s rider profile by noting “concert”, or by calling (916) 945-7320, and tickets will also be available at the door.

All net proceeds go to Rebecca’s Pedal the Cause donations. 100% of funds received by Pedal The Cause go directly to funding for the best cancer research ideas at San Diegoʼs three National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers – the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center, Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute and Salk Institute of Biological Studies, on behalf of Rebecca and B+L Bike and Sports Team Fundraiser commitment.
