Mrs. Tara Clark is back to teach art at Poinsettia Elementary thanks to $8,000 raised to save the art program. Parents and community members pitched in. AC Studios (http://carlsbadartstudio.com/) donated $1,000.

Each class at Poinsettia comes to art for 45 minutes every other week.

At the class Carlsbad Patch sat in on, the students created school flags for a contest. The winner's flag would be made into a giant flag for the school. The week of the 24th, students will work on school beautification, repainting the handball courts and a peeling map on the asphalt.

In addition to being passionate about art, students at Poinsettia are improving their test scores too. According to the staff at Poinsettia elementary, the Academic Performance Index (API) rose 12 points this past year, and was the largest growth across the district and at a time when API scores across the state are trending down.
