Aviara Oaks Elementary Proves to be Best at Soccer in the Distrct [Video Clip]

Both the girls team and the boys team took the trophies at Carlsbad Unified School District's Capo de Carlsbad first annual 5th grade soccer tournament.

The first annual Capo de Carlsbad on Dec. 13 at the turf field at Pine park had a great turn out of players, siblings, parents and staff despite early morning rain.

Members of the San Diego Soccer's and San Diego Sea Lions were on hand to take photos with students, pass out the medals to the winning boys and girls teams (both from Aviara Oaks Elementary) all as well as soccer balls to each school for participating.

The idea for the school tournament was a collaboration between Rosemary Eshelman who is the school district's student services specialist, and CUSD school board member Veronica Williams.

"All of these students will end up in middle school and then onto high school together. This is one more way that we can connect them with each other along the way, and also show them healthy habits," explianed Eshelman.

The school district worked closely with Carlsbad's Parks and Recreation department to make this tournament happen. All the referees were CIF certified and volunteered their time for the event.
