Aviara Oaks Middle School's Kelly Momeyer Named CUSD 2013 Teacher of the Year

Ms. Momeyer teaches 6th grade and was selected by the Carlsbad Unified School District after a comprehensive review process which a classroom observation and follow-up interview.

Kelly Momeyer was hired as a teacher at Aviara Oaks Middle School (AOMS) in 2005. Before that, she initially served as a student teacher at the school. She confides, "I was ecstatic when I joined the staff as a teacher. I feel lucky to work with such talented colleagues, amazing students and supportive parents. It's an
incredible place."

According to Principal Megan Arias, Ms. Momeyer is a standout among standouts. She approaches teaching as an adventure, as opposed to a job. “Her unshakable belief that every child can be successful is amazing to watch,” noted Principal Arias. “Through a variety of innovative strategies, her students are challenged, engaged, and comfortable taking risks.” What makes Ms. Momeyer unique is her infusion of technology into every lesson to create a seamless platform for student learning.

Momeyer believes, "Teaching at a school with so much support for technologies
that enhance my lessons and engage the students has made a huge difference
in my teaching and in the students' learning. In this environment, students
feel secure enough to take risks, think critically and become lifelong
learners."

On April 8th, Board President Elisa Williamson, Superintendent Suzette Lovely and Assistant Superintendent of Personnel Services Rick Grove surprised Ms. Momeyer in her classroom to give her the good news. While accepting accolades and flowers from the Board President, Ms. Momeyer received loud cheers from her 1st period class.
