Carlsbad Ballerina Takes Center Stage

Talented Carlsbad teenager Chisako Oga balances academics with her love of ballet.

At 15-years-old, Carlsbad's Chisako Oga has spent more hours in toe shoes than she can count.  She has devoted nearly all of her free time to ballet lessons and performances in the past six years.  And in the past few weeks, her dedication and discipline has paid off with some great news.

She's just been chosen to perform two leading roles in an Orange County production of the classic ballet, "The Nutcracker."  She will play the part of the "Dew Drop Fairy" in "Waltz of the Flowers."  And she will also play "The Sugar Plum Fairy." The performances are scheduled for December 17 and 18, at the Fullerton College Campus Theatre.  She is part of the ballet academy, V & T Dance, of Laguna Hills.

She has also been selected as a particpant in a world-class ballet competition for youth, that will take place in Switzerland in early 2012. The prestigious ballet event is the 40th annual "Prix De Lausanne." She will compete with 80 other dance students chosen from over 30 different countries.
