Charter School Denied Approval in Carlsbad

The Carlsbad Unified School District board of trustees voted unanimously to deny the charter petition submitted by Oxford Preparatory Academy.

Oxford Preparatory Academy was denied for the second time this year by a school board in North County. The charter school first applied to be part of the Oceanside Unified School District earlier this year, but was rejected. Wednesday night, the Carlsbad Unified School District made the same decision.

According to the North County Times, "trustees said they had concerns after hearing that projections for enrollment and for teacher interest in the school had been exaggerated." The paper added, "Staff members also said they could confirm only 53 parents who said they would enroll in the school, while Oxford claimed 681 local parents had signed the petition."
