Carlsbad High School’s varsity dance team, The Lancer Dancers, will unveil their 2014 national competition routines during a free performance for friends and families at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 25th at the Carlsbad High School gymnasium. The event is open to the public, subject to first-come, first served seating availability in the gym.
“The girls have been working very hard for several weeks to polish their new jazz and hip-hop choreography in preparation for Nationals,” said Lancer Dancers Booster Club President, Judy Esquivel, whose daughter is on the team. “This special evening is a great opportunity for family, friends and the community to watch the Lancer Dancers performing the routines they will bring to the 2014 UDA National Dance Competition in Orlando, Florida next month.”
The annual Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Championships is the nation’s premier competition for high-school varsity and junior varsity dance squads, with approximately 600 different teams from public and private high schools competing each year. The Lancer Dancers have earned 13 National Titles in the jazz or hip hop categories. In recent years, by making the finals, the team has received national television exposure on ESPN, reaching up to 90 million viewers and serving as teen ambassadors for the city of Carlsbad. The squad was also recently selected as San Diego County’s favorite high school dance team via an online poll conducted by the KUSI News Pig Skin Report.
Community Support is a Cornerstone to the Team’s Success
Off the field and away from competition, the Lancer Dancers take pride in giving back to Carlsbad, performing at wide range of community and charitable events each year. The support the Lancer Dancers receive from the City of Carlsbad and community businesses is truly instrumental in empowering the squad to compete and consistently shine at such an elite level of competition.
