Oceanside, CA – The colorful and dynamic permaculture guru, Paul Wheaton, will present “Replacing Irrigation with Permaculture” Friday, September 7, 2012 at theOceanside Public Library.  Doors open at 6:45PM and the presentation will begin at 7:00PM. Wheaton will be in town as part of his “Symphonies in Seed and Soil Tour” of the West Coast.

Whether you have some water to play with or your land is bone dry, Paul Wheaton will walk through how to convert a dried patch of dirt into a lush jungle of crops and forage without any irrigation. The presentation will cover a range of techniques for making use of the water that falls from the sky, but will also provide an understanding of how simple micro-climates can be created and enhanced to preserve and produce additional water. Some of the methods discussed include maximizing edge effect, planting trees (the right kind and right technique), digging swales, using rocks, creating hugelkultur beds and more.

About California Rare Fruit Growers (CRFG):

Our parent non-profit organization, founded in 1968 by Paul Thomson and John Riley, is made up of amateur and professional fruit growers. There are over 20 chapters that share information about the propagation and growing of common and rare varieties of fruit and exchanges plant material.  Each year the chapters get together for a multi-day “Festival of Fruit” conference that features a variety of speakers and tours. Our chapter holds monthly meetings featuring guest speakers, fruit tastings, and plant raffles.  We also organize grafting workshops and farm and garden tours.  For more information visit our website HERE
