Girl Scout Hosts Garage Sale to Help Kids in Need

Morgan Stromberg and fellow troop members donated all proceeds to a foster care agency.

Thanks to Carlsbad Troop 1085, some foster children in San Diego will have a much better summer vacation. The troop, made up of five young girls, gathered their old toys, books and clothes and managed to have a very successful garage sale. They donated $650 to Walden Family Services to help send foster kids to summer camp.

“I’m so proud that we all did it,” said 10-year-old Morgan Stromberg, who held the garage sale at her house. “We had to give up some things we really didn’t want to, but we knew we’d be helping kids who aren’t as fortunate.”

“The girls did this all on their own,” said Morgan’s mother, Michelle Stromberg. “They advertised and even organized a bake sale so that they could sell brownies and lemonade at the garage sale. Their hearts are so big.”

Morgan just joined Troop 1085 last year. She and her family moved to Carlsbad from Northern California. Morgan says she was welcomed with open arms and is so proud of what her fellow girl scouts were able to accomplish. She says they were all overwhelmed by the response from Walden Family Services when the troop delivered its check.

“I know we all felt amazed,” said Morgan. “It felt good to help and we were all so happy.”
