Helicopter Hole-in-One Earns Lucky Carlsbad Man $5k [Video Clip]

The helicopter golf ball drop was part of a fundraiser for Carlsbad Educational Foundation's 12th Annual Carlsbad Golf Classic at The Crossings on Friday.

Five hundred golf balls were sold for $20 each as a fundraiser for the Carlsbad Educational Foundation.

On Friday, a helicopter dropped the balls over an "x" marking the 9th hole at The Crossings at Carlsbad before CEF's annual golf tournament.

A $5,000 prize would be given to the person who purchased the ball that landed either in the hole or closest to it.

One ball landed in the hole, ball #114 belonging to Dennis Fritz of Carlsbad.

After the “Chopper Dropper” an all-day golf tournament started, followed by wine tasting, dinner and silent and live auctions. A final count is still being collected, but the event is expected to raise more than $75,000 for the Carlsbad Educational Foundation which support hands-on science initiatives, music and innovative programs for the 11,000 students in Carlsbad Schools – programs that would not exist without this funding.
