Local Educators Come Together as Rock Band to Raise Money for LCC

The group, also known as The Credentialed, has raised more than $30K in student scholarship funds so far and will be having a concert May 10 at LCC to fundraise more.

A motley crew consisting of six teachers, a high school counselor and middle school assistant principal, all with the San Dieguito Union High School District, are getting ready to rock the house for a great cause. The group of educators/musicians also known as The Credentialed will be performing their 11th annual scholarship awards concert on Friday, May 10th at 6:30 p.m. at La Costa Canyon High School (LCC).  All concert ticket sales directly fund LCC student scholarships.

Pre- Sale tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the LCC Finance Office thru May 10th or at the door for $7.

Since the band’s inception ten years ago the group, which includes government, US History, math, digital arts/yearbook, music and sculpture teachers as well as a high school counselor and middle school assistant principal, have awarded 63 scholarships, totaling more than $30K, to exemplary graduating seniors who meet LCC staff developed criteria.

The LCC Staff Scholarship Program originally started in 1997 with La Costa Canyon teachers passing around a collection hat during staff meetings. The next year the staff developed a cookbook hoping to increase LCC student scholarship opportunities. Five years later, the LCC staff members formed the band The Credentialed and the annual Maverick Legacy Scholarship concert made its debut.

The Credentialed has established quite a following over the past ten years performing frequently at the Belly-Up in Solana Beach and as well at the Encinitas Moonlight Beach Summer Concert series, Fiesta Del Sol, and the Encinitas Lima Bean Festival.
