The Carlsbad Unified School District Board of Trustees held a Special Board Meeting on Monday, September 16, to appoint a new Board member to replace Trustee Kelli Moors, who resigned earlier this month.
Ten candidates who submitted applications were interviewed by the Board. One candidate withdrew his name from consideration.
By unanimous vote, Ms. Claudine Jones was selected to fill the open seat.
“A high quality pool of applicants from all walks of life stepped forward to fill this important role,” stated Board President Elisa Williamson. “Every one of these talented candidates was motivated by the wish to serve the students in our schools.”
Before moving to Carlsbad, Claudine Jones was a corporate merchandiser for Gap, Inc., and a project manager in the Yahoo! Shopping division. Although she continues to work in the financial field, Ms. Jones is a full-time volunteer, supporting her children’s education. Not only is Ms. Jones’ active at Kelly Elementary and Valley Middle School where her children attend, she is involved in a number of districtwide programs.
Ms. Jones serves on the PTA Executive Board, Parent and Community Budget Task Force, the Carlsbad Educational Foundation Grantwriting Collaborative, and takes annual trips to Sacramento to lobby on behalf of public schools.
“I’d like to thank the Board for this opportunity. I’m thrilled to have been chosen to serve with them,” said Ms. Jones. “I have worked really hard for the last few years getting up to speed on the many issues affecting public education. There are so many great things going on in our schools, and there are a lot of challenges ahead. Whatever policy the Board must decide on, I will always ask, ‘Is this in the best interest of our children?’”
Ms. Jones will be sworn in at the next Board meeting on September 25th.
