Pacific Ridge School's Student Magazine Named Finalist in Journalism Competition

Global Vantage, a print and online magazine run collaboratively by students from Pacific Ridge School, Canyon Crest Academy, and Kibera Girls Soccer Academy (Kibera, Kenya) has been selected as a finalist for a Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) 2014 Crown Award. Crown Awards are the highest recognition given by the CSPA.

The Crown Awards recognize excellence in middle school, high school, and collegiate level newspapers, magazines, and digital publications. A panel of judges composed of journalism professors, reporters, and other industry professionals evaluate the publication for design, photography, concept, coverage and writing.

Global Vantage is one of just 27 publications nationwide to be named a finalist in the category of High School Hybrid, a designation for publications that offer new content online and in print. All finalists will receive either “Silver” or “Gold” Crown distinction at a ceremony in March.

The Crown Award is the most recent in a long list of accolades for the student-run magazine. In October, several members of the Global Vantage staff received CSPA Gold Circle awards for individual articles, and the entire staff received the Specialty Magazine Overall Design award for Issue 6. Last year, the magazine received a Gold Medal – placing in the top 1 percent of entries – as part of CSPA’s extensive Medalist Critique. The magazine was also named one of four overall winners in the 2012 U.S. Department of Education Startup Challenge.
