Art teacher Amy Miller says students off all artistic skill levels were able to do the project and she didn't give them an example of what a robot should look like. "What I loved the most was watching the creativity and having them play off each other," explained Miller.

One student told Miller making the robots was the highlight of 5th grade. Another student, Gabriella, showed Carlsbad Patch her robot "Patches." "He's a puppet," she explained, "I'm so excited to take him home. We've worked on our robots for so long."

The process of robot making. For Miller, the process started even earlier. She collected as much clutter and junk from her home as possible so the students had lots to choose from. "Old glasses and small plastic game pieces were hit," she said. "We'll need more small stuff for next year, doll house pieces work great too."

If you'd like to donate "junk" for future robots, contact Amy Miller at amiller@carlsbadusd.net.
