Carlsbad's newest school Sage Creek High School welcomed the freshman class of 2017 on Tuesday.

Student Brock Bradfield told Carlsbad Patch, "I'm enjoying learning new stuff and looking forward to having good teachers." He added that his favorite part of the school was the football field.

Hilda Basquez-Rocha said her first day at school was, "fun, and the teachers seem really nice and they care about the students and want to make a difference." She chose SCHS because, "it's all about the students. Carlsbad High School a set tradition and we get to create one here. I like that were are able to set the foundation for the school," she said.

Principal Cesar Morales said opening day is like game night, after all the preparation the fun begins, "we get to watch the students bring the campus to life," he said.

"The Sage Creek experience is a small campus feel," added Morales. Each student attends an advisory period with 21 other students. For the next four years the students will keep the same advisor.
